SmartRecruiters & SAP SuccessFactors: What's Changing in Recruitment Right Now
SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting remains available. At the same time, SAP is positioning SmartRecruiters as a strategic innovation layer for the next generation of talent acquisition. The focus is on more closely connected recruitment processes, a stronger data foundation and the targeted use of AI.
With the acquisition of SmartRecruiters, SAP has laid the foundation for connecting recruitment more closely with skills, workforce planning and AI-supported decision-making. SmartRecruiters for SAP SuccessFactors has been available since March 2026. This is a productised integration package with single sign-on via SAP IAS, unified navigation and synchronised organisational and master data. The aim is to provide a seamless user experience across systems and a consistent data foundation across all HR processes.

What Does This Mean for Existing SuccessFactors Recruiting Customers?
Existing customers retain their freedom of choice. SAP has deliberately chosen not to make migration mandatory. Companies can evaluate SmartRecruiters step by step and, where needed, use it alongside their existing recruitment processes in SAP SuccessFactors. This allows them to assess the new solution without putting ongoing processes at unnecessary risk.
The 2026 roadmap focuses primarily on automation and data harmonisation. Plans include the automated handover of candidates to Employee Central and Onboarding, enhanced reporting capabilities and, further ahead, the integration of SAP’s AI assistant Joule and SmartRecruiters’ AI assistant Winston.
SmartRecruiters’ functionality is also continuing to evolve. Current releases address key requirements of modern recruitment organisations, such as improved consent management, configurable fields for salary transparency and improved applicant data portability. This particularly supports companies with complex, international recruitment scenarios.
Our Conclusion
SAP is pursuing a clear two-speed strategy in recruitment: maintaining stability and protecting investments in the existing SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting solution on the one hand, and driving targeted innovation with SmartRecruiters on the other. This gives customers the opportunity to shape their own transformation path step by step, in a controlled way that suits their organisation.
Companies currently using SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting do not need to take immediate action. However, it is worth assessing these developments early on: What are your organisation’s talent acquisition requirements? Where are there disconnects in your processes? And when could SmartRecruiters deliver real added value?
