When the Special Olympics World Winter Games are held in Switzerland for the first time in March 2029, our country will become the centre of a unique global sporting event. Around 3,700 delegation members, including 2,500 athletes and 900 coaches from more than 100 countries, will compete in Chur, Arosa and Lenzerheide and send a powerful signal for inclusion and equal participation. Since its foundation in 1968, the Special Olympics has offered people with cognitive disabilities a stage on which top sporting performance and human encounters go hand in hand.
A mega event with dynamic HR requirements
Behind the scenes, the organisation team is already undergoing continuous expansion. The core team is expanding from the current 15 to up to 33 employees. One year before the Games, around 250 additional people will be on duty for the test event, and during the Games themselves this number will temporarily rise to around 750. After the major event, the organisation will be scaled back in a controlled manner.
These dynamic changes place high demands on HR processes: complex workflows, strong fluctuations in the workforce and, at the same time, great opportunities for professional and sustainable HR management.
This is where HR Campus comes into play
As part of our «Campus Responsibility» initiative, we have decided to strategically support the Special Olympics World Winter Games Switzerland 2029 as an HR partner for four years. A commitment that is particularly close to our hearts.
Together with our software partners, we are focussing on modern, scalable HR technologies. Since January 2026, Personio has been simplifying the organisation's recruitment, onboarding, master data management and document management.
«The collaboration with HR Campus is a decisive success factor for us as the organisation of the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2029,» says Beat Ritschard, Secretary General of the major event. «In a start-up-like development phase with strong growth, we not only need a HR software like Personio , but above all a partner who understands our dynamics and thinks strategically. This partnership gives us security and structure for the next personnel growth steps.»
Together for a more inclusive future
The Special Olympics World Winter Games 2029 stand for diversity, courage and the power of community. We at HR Campus are proud to support this important project with our expertise and to make a sustainable contribution to a more inclusive Switzerland together with Special Olympics.
