Our language talent Dani Wohl has been with HR Campus for over 10 years. His unusual journey from the jungle of Peru to HR Campus is the focus of this anniversary story.
Dani, please tell us the crazy story of how you came to HR Campus.
I've travelled a lot in my life and lived in different countries. After my studies in Vienna, I spent a year in Italy and then moved to Peru for almost seven years. In Lima, I initially worked for an Italian NGO which, among other things, was driving an exciting fish farming project in the jungle - an unconventional path for a business student. While travelling, I met Philippe Dutkiewicz on the beach in Ecuador in 2013. We got on really well, sipped a cocktail or two together and philosophised about the meaning of life. As luck would have it, I met Philippe again weeks later, first on the Galapagos Islands and then once more in the picturesque Plaza de Armas in southern Peru. This was completely unplanned. We have stayed in touch ever since.
After more than six years in Peru, we decided to move back to Europe. At that time, I was already married, had a young son and longed for my family and stability. When the planning became more concrete, I contacted Philippe and asked him if he could recommend any exciting employers in the DACH region. He told me that his father had "a small HR company" in Switzerland and encouraged me to submit my application. After two interviews and an unplanned "preliminary talk" in Marek's garden in Madetswil, Marek finally said: "Dani, you talk a lot - more than average - but we can control that." The chemistry was right and the journey at HR Campus could begin. I started in the SuccessFactors Team when we were just four consultants. As there weren't many SuccessFactors projects at the beginning, I also implemented a few job reference projects. After 10 years with SuccessFactors, I wanted to and was allowed to broaden my horizons at HR Campus and took on a more active pre-sales role. I am in this role today and also support the Employee Experience Team with topics such as employee and pulse surveys as well as an HR chatbot.
What makes you particularly proud or happy?
I consider myself particularly lucky to be able to look back on so many positive projects and experiences. I actually can't remember any major problems or dicey and unpleasant situations in my interactions with customers, but also with my colleagues at HR Campus. Maybe it's just luck, or maybe it's my thoroughly positive attitude to life.
I am particularly proud of the long-standing and very exciting collaboration with SBB , where we not only worked closely together as partners, but even celebrated my birthday together a few years ago. This opportunity arose at an event in Vienna and we danced together to Marilyn Manson until the early hours of the morning.
Despite your positive attitude, is there a less favourable experience that has stuck in your memory?
I thought long and hard about what I could say about this. There is one point that I perhaps regret a little in retrospect. I was being interviewed for a team leader role at HR Campus. At the time, I had doubts as to whether this was the right role for me. In the end, this meant that I didn't take the opportunity. In hindsight, I would have liked to have been a bit braver. Perhaps I was too cautious at the time - a lesson that I am happy to pass on to my son today: You should seize opportunities and try new things. Even if things don't always turn out the way you think, you grow with your tasks.
